Laura Gore

Jan. 15, 1983 — April 10, 2016

Laura Nicole “Nikki” Gore, 33, of Kitts Hill, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016, in Kettering Memorial Hospital. The Ironton native was born Jan. 15, 1983, the daughter of Kathy J. Spence Gore of Kitts Hill and the late Larry Ray Gore.

Nikki was a 2001 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School, where she was in the band and received the John Philip Sousa Award. She attended Ohio University Southern Campus and was in the Ohio University Campus and Community band and the brass band of the Tri-State. She loved volunteering at the Sugar Creek Christian Academy and was a member of the Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and worked with the Wednesday night youth group. She was also a former cashier for Forth’s Foodfair.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Orville “Bob” and Cynthia Spence; and two uncles, Robert Spence and Tony Gore.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her pet dog, Maggie; paternal grandparents, Clifford and Donna Gore, of Kitts Hill; three aunts, Janet Gore, Vicki Gore, both of Coal Grove and Missy (Don) Wert, of Columbus; two uncles, Terry Gore, of Coal Grove and Kevin (Leah) Gore, of Wheelersburg; and numerous cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church with pastor Mike Long and Brother Jamie Pancake officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery and visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home and from noon until the time of the service at the church. Carl Berger

Feb. 6, 1942 — April 11, 2016

Carl Walter Berger, 74, of Ironton, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, surrounded by his family in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland. The Ironton native was born Feb. 6, 1942, a son to the late Carl Henry Berger and Evelyn Hart Berger. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Coffee Berger, whom he married March 29, 1998.

Mr. Berger was a 1961 graduate of Ironton High School and served in the United States Army National Guard. He was a former barber at Hessen’s Barber Shop in Ironton before becoming the manager of the Burger Chef Restaurant and retired in 2002 as an operator for Sunoco in Kenova, West Virginia. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Coal Grove and an avid Ironton Tiger football fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Merilynn Sue Cyrus; and two sons, Kevin Coffee and David Coffee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Darren (Dee) Berger of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; daughter, Carla (Eric) Maddy of Ironton; daughter, Rhonda Crum of Greenup, Kentucky; daughter, Dreama Coffee of Ironton; son, Kerry (Dreama) Coffee of Worthington, Kentucky; and 12 grandchildren, Keith Berger, Kirsten Berger, Sarah Conley, Derek Maddy, Jayson Maddy, Candi Crum, Amanda Crum, Camron Crum, Cheyenne Riedel,Jessica Riedel, Samantha Riedel, Joshua Coffee.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with pastor Brad Jenkins and pastor Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday or from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Lloyd Mays

Nov. 17, 1935 — April 11, 2016

Lloyd Norman Mays, 80, of Kitts Hill, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. The Aid native was born Nov. 17, 1935, the son of the late Floyd Edward Mays and Dorothy Kingery Mays.

Mr. Mays was a 1953 graduate of Coal Grove High School and was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a former employee of the Columbus Show Case in Ashland and retired after 30 years with the Dayton Malleable Iron Company. He was a former member of the Myrtle Ridge Baptist Church and also attended Christ Temple in Huntington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Milem Mays.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Waller Mays; five children, Mark (Kathy) Mays of Troy,Craig (Cindy) Mays, of Milton, West Virginia, Kirk (Yolanda) Mays, of Ocala, Florida, Deidre (Todd) Travis, of Ironton and Jamie (Felecia) Waller, of Columbus; one brother, Ralph (Carol) Mays, of Banning, California; 11 grandchildren, Josh (Renee) Mays, of Flagstaff, Arizona, Beth (Alex) Klein, of Fredericksburg, Indiana, Kayla (Andy) Otworth, of Franklin Furnace, Matthew (Amy) Mays, of Davenport, Florida, Hannah (Tim) Kazee, of Wheelersburg, Jacob (Tiffany) Travis, of Fort Eustis, Virginia, Sarah Travis, of Ironton, Rebekah Travis, of Ironton, Dustin (Jen) Riccio, of Angola, New York, Phillip Waller, of Germany, and Damian Waller, of Columbus; and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Lloyd’s oldest grandson, Josh Mays officiating. Burial will follow the funeral in Mamre Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Melva Wood

Melva L. Wood, 88, of Chesapeake, died Monday, April 11, 2016, at Crystal Care of Coal Grove. A graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Karen Woodyard

Karen Marie Woodyard, 60, of Huntington, died Friday, April 8, 2016, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Virginia. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Wyant and Irwin Cemetery, Milton, West Virginia. Joyce Wagner
