PEDRO — It was day of picking each other up.

The Rock Hill Redwomen got clutch hits all day as they pulled away from the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 12-4 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“So many girls stepped up in big spots and delivered when we had runners in scoring position,” said Redwomen coach Sam Gue.

“This one was closer than the final score indicates. Chesapeake did a nice job and challenged us in a big way tonight.”

Chesapeake went up 2-0 in the first when Kelsey Huff singled, Ryleigh Swann reached on an error and Lyric Bair had a two-run single.

Rock Hill tied the game in the second. Riann Keating and Anna Darby singled, Madison Harper walked and Taylor Hall had a two-run double.

“Tay really got us going to bring us back to even in the second. She’s seeing the ball so well and looking to drive it every time up,” said Gue. “Kaci (Russell) was on base every time at the plate and that makes it tough on the defense.”

The Lady Panthers went up 3-2 in the top of the third when Swann reached on an error and Melanie Noble had an RBI single.

Rock Hill took the lead for good with two runs in the third. Makenzi Harrah was safe on an error, Keating singled and Lily McGinnis had an RBI groundout. Darby reached on an error as a run scored.

Russell singled, Lane had a sacrifice and Jill Hairston singled as Rock Hill went up 5-3 in the fourth.

Chesapeake got within 5-4 in the sixth on a double by Brooke Webb, an error and Bair’s sacrifice fly.

But Rock Hill erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the inning.

Russell, Lane, Hairston and Harrah all singled to produce two runs. Keating had a two-run double and Darby got an RBI single.

Harper followed with a base hit and Russell got an RBI single to cap the rally.

Russell was 4-5 as Rock Hill had 17 hits. Keating was 3-4, Harper 2-3, and Darby and Hall 2-4. Hall had three RBIs and Darby two.

Chesapeake is at Portsmouth on Thursday. Rock Hill hosts South Point on Friday.
