Protect county’s natural resources

Most times during the spring season, most mentions of Symmes Creek involve whether or not a heavy rainstorm caused it to flood. While this can certainly be the case, unfortunately people don’t think about what is left laying in the creek on its banks after a flood. And that is trash.
Continually thinking about raising awareness and being able to make sure one of Lawrence County’s treasures stays clean is the goal of the Symmes Creek Restoration Committee.
Spending an afternoon kayaking or canoeing, or sitting on the bank fishing are the great things about the creek that travels a little over 70 miles in Lawrence County.
As residents, it is important to understand exactly what we have in treasures like Symmes Creek.
While many of the larger cities around the state like Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland have many great resources, having assets like Symmes Creek, Lake Vesuvius and the Iron Furnaces are just a few examples of why we are so lucky in Lawrence County.
All the gems we have throughout the county are something we should always hold close to our hearts, and work to make sure they are around for our future generations to enjoy as much as we have for decades.
