Trojans nip Redmen 2-1 in OVC game

PEDRO — It was a pretty evenly matched game with one small difference: a clutch hit.

The Portsmouth Trojans were able to get one more clutch hit than the Rock Hill Redmen in a 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.

“It was well-pitched, good defense, they just got the timely hitting and we didn’t,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

Six different pitchers combined for the Trojans with Zach Kinney getting the win.

Rock Hill’s Cody Lewis was the tough-luck loser. He struck out nine, walked just one and scrattered eight hits.

The Trojans got a run in the second when Mikey Potts singled, was sacrificed to second and scored on a double by Blake Wedebrook.

Rock Hill tied the game in the third with two outs. Heath Carpenter singled, stole second and came home on Sean McFann’s double.

Portsmouth got he wining run in the fifth.

Ty Oliver walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and came home when Reese Johnson doubled.

The Redmen had six hits as Carpenter went 2-3 and Jake Blagg 2-4 with a double.

Portsmouth had eight hits with Oliver, Johnson and Zach Delotell were all 2-4.

Rock Hill hosts Gallipolis on Friday.
