CHESAPEAKE — Oh what a Webb we weave.

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ Brooke Webb weaved her way through the Portsmouth Lady Trojans’ lineup in a 4-1 Division III sectional tournament game on Tuesday.

Webb allowed just four hits, struck out 10 and walked one to get the win.

“Brooke threw a good game. She shut them down pretty well,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Aaron Rice.

“We only struck out twice and put the ball in play, but their pitcher did a good job mixing speeds and keeping us off-balance. We finally got our bats going and we bunched our hits together and generated enough runs to win.”

Portsmouth got its run in the third inning when Morgan Grashel singled, Wesleigh Jackson doubled and Sharia Kearns singled in the run. Jackson tried to score on the play but was thrown out at home.

Chesapeake took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth.

With one out, Jordan Storms, Rachel Pratt and Laura Rice singled to load the bases. Ryleigh Swann then had a two-out single to score pinch-runner Alexis Kerns and Pratt.

The Lady Panthers tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth.

Lyric Bair had a one-out single and Storms slammed a home run to score pinch-runner Sydney Wellman ahead of her for a 4-1 lead.

Storms went 2-3.

Andi Queen took the loss for Portsmouth. She gave up seven hits, struck out two and walked two.

Chesapeake (10-12) travels to Wheelersburg at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Lady Panthers visit Coal Grove on Thursday for a makeup game.
