PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Too many walks caught up to Brandon Finnegan.

Finnegan lasted just four innings, and the Cincinnati Reds lost 3-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.

While Finnegan struggled, Philadelphia right-hander Jeremy Hellickson struck out nine in seven innings and drove in the go-ahead run on a suicide squeeze. The Phillies snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Reds with their fifth win in the past six games.

Finnegan (1-2) was charged with three runs and four hits. He got away with three walks in the first three innings. But a pair of walks in the fourth preceded a two-run triple by Tyler Goeddel.

“I hurt myself,” Finnegan said. “I didn’t have good control. I didn’t have my best stuff and it showed.”

The Reds went ahead in the second inning when Goeddel dropped Tucker Barnhart’s fly ball down the left-field line, allowing two runs to score with two outs.

But Finnegan walked Carlos Ruiz and Tommy Joseph in the fourth before Goeddel, who entered batting .159, lined his first career triple down the right-field line. Goeddel then scored the go-ahead run on Hellickson’s perfect bunt in front of the plate.

Hellickson (3-2) allowed two unearned runs and four hits. Jeanmar Gomez finished for his major league-leading 14th save in 15 chances.

“Hellickson did a good job, had good off-speed stuff and really held us down,” Reds bench coach Jim Riggleman said.

STREAKING

Reds left fielder Adam Duvall was 2 for 3 and is batting .345 (10 for 29) with six extra-base hits in the last eight games.

STANDINGS

The Phillies moved six games over .500 for the first time since finishing the 2011 season with a franchise-record 102 wins. The Reds dropped to 14-21 with their fourth loss in five games.

SMALL BALL

The Phillies had three different players reach safely on bunt singles to go along with the squeeze. The little things are helping a team which lacks power. The Phillies are 13-3 in one-run games.

SUSPENDED

Reds pitcher Ross Ohlendorf was suspended three games by Major League Baseball for throwing at Pittsburgh’s David Freese this week after warnings had been issued. Ohlendorf appealed the punishment, and is available to pitch until there is a final resolution.

“I didn’t do it on purpose,” Ohlendorf said. “It wasn’t intentional.”

Reds manager Bryan Price was suspended one game and fined.

“We don’t go out there to try to hit people, because in turn your guys start to get hit,” Price said.
