Police week honors law enforcement

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed the week of May 15 as National Police Week.

National Police Week is set aside to give a special recognition to law enforcement officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Throughout history, Lawrence County has had to endure the loss of officers while in the line of duty on several occasions.

As Lawrence County Prosecutor, I have the privilege and honor to work hand in hand with law enforcement officers on a daily basis. Lawrence County is fortunate to have the men and women in law enforcement who work tirelessly to protect our citizens day and night.

The job of a law enforcement officer is often underpaid and goes with very little recognition. I have seen first hand the dedication and courage of Lawrence County law enforcement officers as they risk their lives each and every day to protect the citizens of Lawrence County.

Please join me in thanking all of our law enforcement officers for their hard work, dedication and sacrifice during this National Police Week.
