Fair more than food, rides

In less than a month, the 2016 Lawrence County Fair will kick off with residents from all around the county and Tri-State visiting the fairgrounds in Proctorville.
While fair-goers will have a variety of options when it comes to food, games, entertainment and rides, be sure not to leave before making a stop at an event or show at one of the barns involving the county’s young people and 4-H groups. These events and shows go on throughout the week of the fair, but that is just the culmination of many months of hard work by each participant who enters a project from around Lawrence County.
Whether it involves animal or agriculture, each of these projects requires a significant commitment and high level of dedication from all those involved.
We applaud the efforts of each of these young people, their parents and any others involved in making the project a success, regardless of who are chosen as the winners.
All of those participating should be proud of realizing their project from start to finish and showing the hard work it truly takes to see the end result.
These projects aren’t simply about the immediate outcome, but developing essential skills that will prepare these young people for the rest of their lives.
