Harold Cade

April 4, 1931 — July 3, 2016

Harold Ray Cade, 85, of Pedro, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016, at the Sanctuary of Ohio Valley in Ironton. The Lawrence County native was born April 4, 1931, the son of the late Charlie and Mamie Sharp Cade. He is survived by his wife, Esther J. Suttles Cade, whom he married Sept. 25, 1965, in Ashland, Kentucky.

Harold attended Waterloo Schools and was of the Baptist faith. He was a former laborer for Collins Mining, Miller Logging Company and a former employee of the C&O Railroad.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Nola Bolt, Rose Herdman, Violet Morgan and Mildred Ashworth; and five brothers, Cecil Cade, Kenneth Cade, Charles Cade, Frances Cade and Donald Cade.

In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Bill) Waddle, of Ironton; two grandchildren, Billy and Brandon Waddle, of Ironton; three sisters, Margie Fetter, of Ironton, Lucille Bare, of Ashland, and Betty (Gaylord) Roark, of Columbus; and one brother, Jim (Elma) Cade, of Waverly.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. Ralph Mulkey

July 1, 1945 — July 5, 2016

Ralph Delmar Mulkey, 71, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving wife, Genevieve “Genny” Cremeans Mulkey, and their children.

The Ironton native was born July 1, 1945, a son of the late Imogene Stewart Mulkey Higgins, and the late Ballard Mulkey and his late stepfather Franklin Higgins.

Ralph was a self-employed truck driver who enjoyed seeing the country with his wife. He also loved spending time with his family and close friends. He was well loved by everyone who knew him and was always ready to help others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his wife, Ralph is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Rick) Mullikin, of Lakeland, Florida, and Lisa (Rick) Burke, of Kitts Hill; a son, Randall (Tracy) Mulkey, of Ironton; two sisters, Joyce Estes, of Ironton, and Donna (Dwight) Stephens, of Lithia, Florida; brothers, Harry (Linda) Mulkey, of Ironton, Cecil “Huck” Mulkey, of South Vienna, and Jerry (Nancy) Mulkey, of Bucyrus; six grandchildren, Wesley (Nicole) Hamlin, of Mulberry, Florida, Brittany (Tony) Bonomo, of Marshall, Indiana, Richard (Megan) Burke, of West Liberty, Kentucky, David Mulkey, of Lancaster, Roman Mulkey and Randy Mulkey, of Ironton; five great-grandchildren, Josh Bonomo, Mia Bonomo and Giovana Bonomo, of Marshall, Indiana, BaileeAnn Burke and Evelyn Burke, of West Liberty; two sisters-in-law; Agnes Pemberton, of South Point, and Geneva Meadows, of Ironton; brother-in-law, Harrison “Buddy” Cremeans, of South Point; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ralph’s residence in Rock Hollow located at 3373 County Road 128, Ironton, with Robert “Bobby” Chaffins officiating. Angela Shoops

April 26, 1962 — July 1, 2016

Angela (Bacon) Shoops, 54, of Ironton, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton. The Ironton native was born April 26, 1962, a daughter to WJ Bacon and Wilma (Williams) Taylor, both of Ironton. Mrs. Shoops is survived by her husband of eight years, Stephen Shoops.

Mrs. Shoops was a 1980 graduate of Ironton High School. Angela went on to work as a domestic violence shelter advocate at the Lawrence County Domestic Violence Shelter. She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, Angela is survived by three sons, Erique (Alana) Bacon, of Alexandria, Louisiana; Derique Bacon and Larry Morris, both of Ironton; three daughters, Eriqua Bacon, DJ Bacon and Larren Morris, all of Ironton; three brothers, Dennis Bacon of Columbus, Dwayne Bacon, of Ironton, and Michael Bacon, of Louisville, Kentucky; a sister, Aleah Jennings, of Louisville; her favorite aunt, Rachel Murphy, of Ironton; and five grandkids, Angelyse Bacon, of Ironton, Braylon Bacon, of Athens, Mollie Bacon, of Athens, Darrick Bacon, of Ironton, and DaShawn Greene, of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 5 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Carter and the Rev. Damion Snead officiating. Raymond Emmons

March 20, 1932 — June 7, 2016

M. Sgt. Raymond H. Emmons, Ret., 84, of Ruffin, South Carolina, formerly of Kitts Hill, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at the Medical University of South Carolina from complications from a stroke.

Mr. Emmons was born in North Kennebunkport, Maine, the son of the late Clarence R. and Grace A. Woods Emmons, on March 20, 1932. He was a graduate of Kennebunk High school in Kennebunk, Maine in 1950. Raymond joined the U.S. Air Force soon after graduation, remained in the service for 20 years and retired as an M. Sgt. He concluded his working career as a manager at the Suburban Propane facility on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Mr. Emmons is survived by his loving wife of six and a half years, Elberta N. Emmons, of Charleston, South Carolina; four children, Michael Emmons, of Wakefield, New Hampshire, Ellen Bowden, of Cumberland, Maine, Bruce Emmons, of Kennebunkport, Maine, and Glenda Burg, of Pleasant Ridge, Michigan; two stepsons, Randall L. Curry, of Ft. Myers, Florida and Bradley L. Curry, of Caledonia; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Emmons is preceded in death by one son, Stephen Emmons in 2005; four brothers, Rodney, Ralph, Richard and Robert Emmons; five sisters, Elsie Storrs, Edith Wilson, Virginia Mahar, Ruth Cluff and Lucy Emmons.

Cremation services were provided by Parker and Rhoden Funeral Home in Walterboro, South Carolina. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted Friday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.

 

Connie Damerel

Connie Mullens Bryant Damerel, 76, of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Damerel was born in Virginia to the late Elvie and Rose Frazier Mullens.

Survivors include her husband, Gardner Damerel of the home; children, Sharon Brammer, of Coal Grove, Jesse Bryant, of Sylvatus, Virginia, Buddy Damerel, of Richmond, Virginia, and Andrea Elizabeth Garrison, of Florida; brothers, Ed Mullens, of Independence, Virginia, and Frank Mullens, of Ohio; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 144 Washington Avenue N., Pulaski, Virginia with the Rev. Vickie Houk officiating. Burial will follow in the Shorts Creek Church of God Cemetery in Austinville. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel.
