Dear Lawrence County voters,

Do you have any idea how many miles it is from the Lawrence County Court House to Franklin Furnace, Ohio? Try 13. Do you have any idea how many miles it is from the Lawrence County Court House to the jail in Huron County? Well, I don’t know either, but our Lawrence County Sheriff Deputies can tell you because they are now transporting our local overflow prisoners there. It takes about five hours one way. Franklin Furnace is less than a half hour trip.

And, there is a facility at Franklin Furnace that we are already leasing and paying utilities on that is standing empty and could house all of our prisoners plus we would have space to rent to other counties.

I wonder why we are wasting all this money shipping our prisoners all over the state instead of using a local facility. Is it because our county commissioners, who incidentally are paid to manage the county’s money, are incapable of handling their elected job.

I suggest that this fall we replace all three of these guys and elect people with some foresight and some common sense.
