Fighting Tigers’ golfers win quad match at SSU

FRIENDSHIP — You might say the Ironton Fighting Tigers golfers won a “fore” team match.
Ironton posted a 188 team score led by Mitchell Weisgarber who carded a 40 as the Fighting Tigers won a four-team match Thursday at the Shawnee Golf Course.
Chandler Dodson was next for Ironton with a 47 while James Carter was a shot back at 48. Trevor Hacker completed the scoring with a 53 and Mason Slagel shot a 56.
Portsmouth Notre Dame was second with a 198 team score followed by Portsmouth Clay with a 201 and Latham Western had a 234 total.
Truman Hash shot a 46 to lead the Titans. Jared Rudy had a 50, Braden Bennington and Spencer Wilcox each had a 51, Cameron Rodriguez finished with a 55 and Tyler Spees a 63.
Clay team scores were balanced. Hunter Armstrong led with a 46, Caleb Kline had a 50, Hunter Mathis 51, Tyler Hobbs a 54 and Tyler Phillips and Gage Moore had a 55 each.
Western’s Broc Jordan took medalist honors with a 39. Dante Lightle had a 57, Alex Jordan a 60 and Maverick Ferneau a 78.
Ironton (25-25) will play in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament on Friday at the Portsmouth Elks.
The girls’ sectional tournament is Monday at the Chillicothe Jaycee’s Golf Course and the boys’ sectional at the Elks on Tuesday.
