Ironton girls’ volleyball sweeps Red Devils in straight sets

FLATWOODS, Ky. — Everybody was getting into the act.
The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers used a balanced performance as they beat the Russell Lady Red Devils in three sets on Tuesday in a volleyball game.
“The girls’ effort towards the victory was very balanced,” said Ironton coach Beth Campbell.
“We have a lot of athletic players and all of them can contribute different aspects of the game which is something we have been working towards for a long time, namely balance.”
D’Laynie Keith led the offense once again with 14 points and Zakia Lee with 12. Alyssa Lewis and Ali White had eight points each, Lexi Wise five and Kenzie Cremeens four.
Wise led with eight kills while Lewis, Lee and Keith had six kills each and Cremeens added three. Lewis racked up 22 assists.
Lee finished the game with six blocks and Cremeens had four.
White registered six digs while Alyssia Rowe had three including two great digs below the net.
In the jayvee game, Ironton won 21-19, 21-19. Lydia Hannan had eight points with two aces, Shay Cox six points with three aces, Riley Schreck four points, and Peighton Rowe and M’Kenzie McMaster three each.
Ironton hosts Coal Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
