Crews from Columbus were in town this week to help with disposing of tires collected by the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste District.

The district applied under the EPA to collect the worn-out tires on county and township roads, director Dan Palmer said.

He said a crew from Liberty Tire Services were loading up the tires Thursday and Friday.

“This is something we’ve worked on since January,” Palmer said. “And it did not cost the county one penny, since we applied through the EPA.

Palmer said the tires had been collected and stored at an undisclosed location, to discourage dumping, until the Columbus group could come to pick them up.
