Jessie King

June 7, 1937 — Nov. 13, 2016

Jessie Jean King, 79, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, at a local health care facility. The Ross County native was born June 7, 1937, a daughter of the late Walter and Mary Dalton Griffith. She was also preceded in death by her husband Glennis King, who passed away in 1983.
Mrs. King attended Hitchens High School and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Walter Joe Remy, Garland A. Remy and Homer L. Remy; and seven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a son, James R. (Ellen) Remy, of Ironton; four daughters, Pauline F. Corbin, of Ironton, Shirley D. King, of South Point, Mary B. (Tommie) Craig, of South Solon, and Norma S. (Rick) Martin, of Ironton; two sisters, Mary Ann Barksdale, of Tampa, Florida, and Fern Bickelhaupt, of Cape Coral, Florida; a brother, Frank Griffith, of Ironton; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; also survived by Carolyn Lewis and several other friends at the Christianson House.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Shirley Adkins

Aug. 24, 1938 — Nov. 13, 2016

Shirley Mae Adkins, 78, of Wooster, formerly of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, at the LifeCare Hospice in Wooster. The Pedro native was born Aug. 24, 1938, a daughter of the late James E. and Martha J. Kelly Noel. She was also preceded in death by her husband Leo Adkins, who passed away Dec. 7, 2013.
Mrs. Adkins attended Rock Hill High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of God in Wooster and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John Noel, Bob Noel and Roy Noel; and four sisters, Eloise Massie, Betty Cantrell, Juanita Noel and Mary Christian.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Jeff) Warner, of Wooster; two grandsons, Joey Henley, of Orrville, and Ryan Warner of Wooster; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Slabfork Cemetery and visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
