Mary Deeds

Jan. 7, 1949 — Dec. 12, 2016

Mary Elaine Payne Deeds, 67, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Mary was born in Ashland, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County. She was born Jan. 7, 1949, the daughter of the late Harry E. Payne, Sr., Imogene (Barnes) Payne and birth mother, Eleanor Mae (Honaker) Payne. She is survived by her husband, Doug Deeds, whom she married on Nov. 26, 1971.
Mary was a 1967 graduate of South Point High School and attended Ohio University Ironton Campus and David Lipscomb College, where she received her Bachelors Degree. She was a teacher for South Point and Dawson-Bryant School Districts, where she worked for 31 years and retired in 2001. She was also a member of South Point Church of Christ in South Point. Mary was the Valedictorian of her class, Principal of Monitor School, a Cub Scout Den Leader, Bible School Teacher, Talent for the Teacher, a Little League Dugout Mom and also helped tutor students. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafting, cake decorating, gardening and spending time with family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Duane (Michelle) Deeds, of Ironton, and Tom Deeds, of Grove City; six brothers, Gary (Rebecca) Payne, of South Point, Eddie (Debbie) Payne, of Ashland, Kentucky, Bob (Emily) Payne, of South Point, Allen (Leah) Payne, of Crown City, Jim Payne, of South Point, and Gene (Lori) Payne, of Loveland; a sister, Sue (Gary) Meyers, of Ironton; three granddaughters, Katie and Abbie Deeds, both of Ironton, and Elena Deeds, of Grove City; a grandson, Jack Deeds, of Grove City; sister-in-law, Sandra (John) Mootz, of Ironton; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with minister Mark Aites officiating. Burial will follow in Community Cemetery in Deering. Roger Alton Parker Jr., 28, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2016. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with pastor Brady Lipscomb officiating. Marshall Lee Smith, 82, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Susan Smith. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

Elizabeth Tucker

Elizabeth “Betty” Rose Keith Tucker, 74, of South Point, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at the Jo-Lin Health Center in Ironton. She is survived by her husband, Larry L. Tucker.
