Balanced Panthers hold off Hornets

COAL GROVE — The Chesapeake Panthers are all about team play.
Seven of the eight players scored as the Panthers got past the Coal Grove Hornets 42-37 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Casey McComas led the Panthers (3-8, 2-3) in scoring with Eric Harr, Cecil Fletcher and Austin Jackson all scoring eight each.
Jordan Case — who was 8-of-10 from the line — led the Hornets with 10 points. Daniel Rutherford and Jeb Jones added eight each.
The game was tied 7-7 after the first quarter and then Jackson hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points and Fletcher added five more in the second quarter as Chesapeake took a 22-14 halftime lead.
Jones scored four points to keep the Hornets close.
Harr scored six points as the Panthers were able to extend the lead to 35-24 at the end of the third quarter.
McComas scored seven of his nine points in the fourth quarter including 4-of-8 from the foul line.
Coal Grove (6-4, 2-3) was 7-of-10 from the line in the fourth quarter. Jaylon McKenzie had four points and Case was 3-of-4 at the line.
Both teams played in Saturday’s Beast of the Southeast.
