PROCTORVILLE — Spring Valley found out the Fairland Lady Dragons are a team. A good team.
The Lady Timberwolves worked to take Fairland leading scorer Emily Chapman out of Saturday’s Tri-State Hoops Throwdown game and did manage to hold her to eight points.
But Allie Marshall scored 13 points, Alesha Simpson had 11 points and Kelsie Warnock connected on 9-of-10 from the foul line as Fairland won 51-38.
“Allie had a real solid game on both ends of the floor. Again, it was a team effort. They did a good job on Emily. It says a lot for our team to get a double-digit win and Emily being held to eight points,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.
Fairland led 14-12 after the first quarter and 23-19 at the half.
The Lady Dragons extended the lead to 34-25 after three quarters.
Warnock was 5-of-6 from the foul line in the fourth quarter as Fairland continued to pull away.
“They have five players who can score, so they’re a really dangerous team. They beat Huntington,” said Buchanan.
“That was probably our best defensive effort. To hold a team that good to 38 points speaks volumes for our girls.”
Payton Caldwell and Morgan Vaughn scored 10 points each for the T-Wolves.
Fairland visits Ironton on Monday.
