PEDRO — The Rock Hill offense wasn’t clicking on Friday, but that wasn’t the focus of Redmen head coach Sam Gue.
While the Redmen lost 62-39 to the Gallipolis Blue Devils in an Ohio Valley Conference game, Gue was unhappy with the other end of the court.
“We just didn’t do a good job playing team defense tonight. That’s on me,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.
“We have to be better and the defensive end is something we, as a team, can control and do a better job of.”
Mason Darby had a big game for the Redmen with a double-double as he scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Jaret Bacorn added six points and four rebounds for Rock Hill (2-13, 0-9).
Gallipolis had three players in double figures led by Evan Wiseman with 21. Justin McClelland scored 11 and Zach Loveday added 10.
Wiseman scored eight points including a 3-pointer as Gallipolis took a 16-4 first quarter lead.
Darby had nine points in the second quarter as Rock Hill got within 26-19 at the half.
But the Blue Devils exploded for 25 points in the third quarter to take a 51-31 lead.
Wiseman scored seven points, Kaden Thomas had five points and McClelland and Loveday scored four each in the outburst.
Darby scored seven points in the quarter for the Redmen.
Gallipolis (10-4, 6-2) was 7-of-11 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.
On Tuesday, Rock Hill visits Chesapeake while Gallipolis hosts Ironton.
