McComas’ 3-pointer caps Chesapeake’s 55-52 comeback win

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Panthers saved their best for last and Casey McComas saved his best for the last second.
The Panthers erased as much as a 14-point deficit with 26 points in the fourth quarter and McComas hit a 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds to play that gave Chesapeake a 55-52 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Rock Hill Redmen on Tuesday.
McComas hit three 3-pointers for the game and scored 15 points to lead the Panthers (4-9, 3-7). Tanner Harr scored 12 points and Eric Harr added 11.
Mason Darby had a game-high 29 points for the Redmen (2-14, 0-10).
Darby scored six points in the first quarter as Rock Hill took a 12-9 lead. Eric Harr had five for the Panthers.
The lead went to 28-17 at the half as Darby scored 10 points and Tyler Damron added four more in the second quarter.
Rock Hill went up 42-29 after three quarters as Darby scored seven points and Isaac Floyd hit a 3-pointer. Eric Harr had four points while McComas and Tanner Harr each made 3-pointers for the Panthers in the quarter.
Darby scored six points in the fourth quarter but the Redmen were held to just 10 as a team.
Chesapeake rallied as Cole Mills scored all seven of his points including a pair of trifectas, McComas had eight points including two 3-pointers and six different players scored for the Panthers in the quarter.
On Friday, Rock Hill hosts Ironton and Chesapeake visits Portsmouth.
