PROCTORVILLE — On the TV game show Family Feud when someone gives their guess the family says, “Good answer.”
The Fairland Lady Dragons had plenty of good answers Friday as they beat the South Point Lady Pointers 70-46 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“(South Point) could never get close. We did a good job if they made a shot or two in a row, we did a good job answering the bell. No matter what they did, we always seemed to have an answer,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.
All those good answers enabled the Lady Dragons to improve to 11-1 in the OVC and tie Ironton for first place.
Kelsie Warnock hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points for Fairland (17-2) while Emily Chapman, Taylar Wilson and Jackie Wagner all scored 10 points each.
South Point (10-7, 6-4) was led by Kate Mundy with 13 points.
Wilson scored six points and Chapman hit a pair of 3-pointers as Fairland took a 21-11 first quarter lead.
Warnock drained three 3-pointers in the second quarter to offset six points by Mundy as Fairland took a 38-22 halftime lead.
“I thought we came out and played well in the first quarter. We shot it well to start and we did a real nice job on both ends that got us off to a good start,” said Buchanan.
The lead was 52-31 after three quarters. Wagner then got six points in the fourth quarter while Mundy had seven for South Point.
Fairland was coming off a 49-40 win at Portsmouth on Thursday in which the Lady Dragons were just 8-of-37 from the field with two minutes left in the third quarter.
Buchanan admitted that performance had him worried going against South Point.
“I was glad to see how well we responded after playing like we did last night. South Point has been playing pretty well so we were concerned about playing them. But we came out with the right mindset,” said Buchanan.
On Monday, South Point is at Ironton and Fairland hosts Gallipolis.
