AID — Bananas aren’t the only thing good that comes in bunches.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were able to group their 12 hits together at the right time as they blanked the Western Lady Indians 7-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Monday.
Symmes Valley had 12 hits as eight different players connected.
“We were able to bunch our hits together to score runs,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
“Our pitching was pretty good and we played pretty well defensively.”
Sarah Kingery got the win with a four-hitter as she struck out 10 and did not walk a batter.
Taylor Webb was 2-4 with a home run and four runs batted in to lead the offense. Kingery also went 2-4  and Sierra Ross was 3-34 with a double.
The Lady Vikings got a run in the second a double by Hannah Newcomb and a single by Mandi Ball.
Kingery reached on an error in the second, Rachael Hayes put down a sacrifice and Ross had an RBI double. Kara Saunders followed with an RBI single for a 3-0 lead.
A run scored in the fifth when Ross singled, Saunders was safe on an error and Newcomb hit into a fielder’s choice.
In the sixth, Kingery singled, Emily Sharp doubled and Webb cranked a three-run homer.
Symmes Valley also got a league win on Saturday by beating the Green Lady Bobcats 21-2 in five innings.
Kingery hit a grand slam to highlight an eight-run fourth inning. Webb added a three-run blast in the uprising.
Ross had a two-run double in the first inning while Newcomb hit a two-run double in the third.
The Vikings are at Western on Tuesday.
