PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redmen might want to think about becoming photographers.
Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral said his team was “focused” as they pounded out 13 hits en route to a 13-0 five-inning Ohio Valley Conference win over the Portsmouth Trojans on Monday.
“The kids were focused and we came out hitting. We played good defense behind Cody (Lewis) and Cody threw the ball extremely well,” said Litteral.
Lewis allowed just two hits, struck out eight and walked two.
Rock Hill (4-1, 3-1) didn’t waste any time as they jumped in front 5-0 in the first inning.
Jake Blagg singled, Lewis hit into a fielder’s choice, Kaleb Kidd singled with two outs, Landon Smith walked and Kyle Stanfield had a two-run single. Jaret Bacon had an RBI single, stole second and Seth Nichols followed with a two-run single.
The Redmen got five more runs in the second.
Blagg was hit by a pitch, Lewis singled, Logan Hankins had an infield hit and Kidd doubled in a pair. Smith squeezed in a run and Stanfield followed with an RBI single. Nichols then grounded out as a run scored.
The lead went to 11-0 in the third.
Blagg tripled and Lewis hit a sacrifice fly. Hankins and Kidd both walked, Smith singled and Jaret Bacorn walked to force in a run.
The final run scored in the fourth when Mason Darby doubled, Blagg walked and after a passed ball Gavin Jenkins grounded out scoring Darby.
Blagg was 2-2 with a triple, Kidd 2-2 with a double, Bacorn 2-2 and Stanfield 2-4.
Ryan Williams and Mikey Potts doubled for Portsmouth’s hits.
On Wednesday, Rock Hill hosts Ironton and Portsmouth entertains Gallipolis.
