The best-paying jobs of tomorrow will be in the field of science, and students at the Chesapeake school system are getting an excellent education in the subject matter.

On Thursday, Chesapeake Middle School will host Science Night for the second year, providing a free night of activities to students from the district’s elementary school.

Last year’s event, which was expertly-coordinated and drew hundreds, gave students a chance to see a robotics show, live animals from the Columbus Zoo and  science demonstrations from Rio Grand University and the Project Lead the Way program at Collins Career Technical Center.

Many of the workshops were taught by the district’s high school students, giving them the opportunity to share the knowledge they have acquired.

In addition to this event, organized by teacher Julie Byers, the middle school has earned a reputation as a leader in science.

Chesapeake Middle students took the top two spots at the county science fair this year, then went on to win numerous awards at the district fair. Four students from the middle school will now go on to compete in the state fair.

The work of Byers and science teachers in Chesapeake is to be commended and it is always inspiring to see faculty put in the extra dedication and passion to ensure students get the best possible education.
