On May 4, family and friends of Chesapeake police officer Aaron Christian will travel to London, Ohio to take part in a special ceremony.
Christian, who died in October following a crash in his cruiser, will be honored at the Ohio Peace Officers Memorial, along with five other officers from Ohio who died in the line of duty this year.
Later that month, he will be memorialized at a federal police memorial in Washington, D.C.
Christian is one of three police officers from the village’s force who have died on duty over the years.
With law enforcement issues a contentious topic, it is important to remember the risks officers take in their jobs.
Police are often the first on the scene, many times alone, in the most dangerous situations our communities may face.
With Christian’s death, the Thin Blue Line in Lawrence County suffered a major loss, and it is appropriate that he is being honored and remembered for his service to the community.
