PEDRO — One pitch.
Just one bad pitch was all it took to decide the outcome of a stellar pitching duel between Rock Hill’s Jill Hairston and Gallipolis’ Hunter Copley.
Jenna Meadows hit a solo home run in the sixth inning for the only run as the Blue Angels edged the Rock Hill Redwomen 1-0 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Rock Hill had just four hits and couldn’t get the timely hit.
Hairston struck out seven and allowed only five hits.
“Our defense played lights out and Jill did an awesome job in the circle,” said Rock Hill coach Brooke Long.
“Offensively, we didn’t produce when we needed to and that was the difference in the game.”
Copley was just as impressive. She gave up four hits, struck out three and walked two.
Meadows — who went 2-3 — was the only batter with more than one hit.
Rock Hill plays in the Valley of the Thunder on Saturday against Western Brown at 3 p.m. and Middletown Madison at 5 p.m.
