McMaster, Lady Tigers beat Blue Angels

M’Kenzie McMaster was the master of the softball field domain on Monday.
McMaster went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and two runs batted in as the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Gallipolis Blue Angels 9-5 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Ironton (6-3) banged out 12 hits with Peighton Rowe going 2-3 with two RBI, Mary Beth Burton 2-3 with two doubles, Shay Cox 1-1 and Demi Sands added a double.
Burton worked five innings for the win. She struck out three, walked three, gave up eight hits and only two of the five runs were earned.
Rowe finished up with two perfect innings as she notched three strikeouts.
“I’m pleased with the team effort tonight. Gallia is a solid team. They hit the ball really well,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.
“McMaster is getting more confident at the plate each game. She listens well and made a few adjustments to her swing. It’s paying off for her. The home run tonight was sweet. And Burton and Rowe are really doing well in the circle.”
After a scoreless first, Ironton got three runs in the second.
Burton doubled and McMaster and Rowe singled for a run. Riley Schreck walked and Kenzie Cremeens reached on an error.
A run scored in the third when McMaster doubled and Rowe singled.
Gallipolis got two in the top of the fourth.
Kimberly Edelmann walked, Allie Young hit into a force play, Carly Shriver singled and Bailey Meadows doubled for a run. An error allowed Shriver to score.
Ironton got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Schreck singled, moved up on an error, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Cremeens’ base hit.
Both teams scored twice in the fifth.
Clagg and Jenna Meadows singled, moved up on a passed ball and Clagg scored on an error. Meadows came home on a wild pitch.
Ironton answered as Burton doubled and McMaster cranked a two-run homer.
Gallipolis got a run in the sixth when Young singled, Shriver reached on an error, Bailey Meadows walked and Ryleigh Caldwell hit into a fielder’s choice.
In Ironton’s sixth, Schreck was safe on an error, Cremeens walked, both moved up on a passed ball and Ruth Paholsky had a two-run single.
On Wednesday, Ironton visits Fairland on Tuesday and hosts Fairland on Wednesday.
