SCIOTOVILLE — Things didn’t go as easy this time, but they still went the Green Bobcats way.
After beating Sciotoville East 11-1 on Monday, the Bobcats blanked the Tartans 3-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Wednesday.
“We played good defense and got good pitching and we got a win. It was a good ball game,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
Green’s Bryce Ponn went 5.2 innings for the win in his pitching debut. He gave up six hits, struck out five and walked one. Trevor Carver struck out three of four batters for the save.
Zach Garrett also pitched a six-hitter, struck out six and walked three in taking the loss.
The game was scoreless until the Green got a run in the sixth inning.
Carver got a walk, Ponn hit into a fielder’s choice and moved up on a wild pitch. Hayden Whitis then got the clutch RBI single.
East got a two-out double by Garrett in the sixth but Carver came on to strike out the next batter to end the threat.
Carver pitched a perfect seventh with two strikeouts.
The Bobcats (13-3, 8-0) added two insurance runs in the seventh.
Tyler Imes was hit by a pitch. Pinch-runner Dawson Blevins stole second and scored on Tanner Kimbler’s base hit. Tyler Darnell was safe on an error and Tayte Carver hit a sacrifice fly.
Green visits South Gallia on Thursday and hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame on Friday.
