Ronald Bentley
June 13, 1928 — April 30, 2017
Ronald Ray Bentley, 88, of Coal Grove, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. He was born June 13, 1928, in Hecla to the late CJ and Dorothy Goodman Bentley.
Ray attended Pedro Schools and left school at 16 to serve in WWII. Ray retired from the Dayton Malleable and served as president of the United Steel Workers Union for 22 years. He was active in his community by serving as Coal Grove Village Council and received special recognition from the Ohio Senate for 57 years of continuous service as a Democratic Central Committeeman. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to the beach for the annual family vacation and also enjoyed traveling to Lake Erie with his sons for fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Iva Hammond Bentley; and four children, Tim (Jeanie) Bentley and Pam Blackwell, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Kay (Scott) Swartzwelder and Kenny Joe (Paula) Bentley; and one sister, Eileen (John) Moeller. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all adored him.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Paul (Grace) Bentley, Ed (Ruth) Bentley and Don (Norma) Bentley; a sister, Lillian (George) Rice; and one granddaughter, Abby Bentley Hamilton.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Zoar Cemetery in Coal Grove and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. The family would like to express appreciation to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and Community Hospice Care Center for providing such loving, compassionate care during the last days of his life.

Robert Wheeler
Nov. 22, 1930 — April 29, 2017
Robert E. Wheeler, 86, of South Point, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Ashland, Kentucky native was born Nov. 22, 1930, a son of the late Delbert M. and Effie Reliford Wheeler.
Mr. Wheeler was a 1949 graduate of Ashland High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1955 from Center College and his Law Degree from University of Kentucky. He was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and a clerk for the C&O Railroad, retiring in 1994 after more than 40 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Wolfe; and a brother-in-law, John R. Blankenship.
He is survived by a sister, Nellie Blankenship, of Venice, Florida; and four brothers, Jimmy J. (Sue) Wheeler, Clyde (Barbara) Wheeler, Charles H. (Yvonne) and Harry W. Wheeler, all of Coal Grove.

Edna Hesson
Edna Leona Schneider Hesson, died Sunday, April 30, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. “Bob” Hesson.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville.
