RIO GRANDE — Ethan Duncan didn’t get the win, but he got the job done.
Duncan and Dane Wilson combined on a two-hit shutout as the Ironton Fighting Tigers blanked the North Adams Green Devils 5-0 on Wednesday.
Duncan went four innings, struck out five, walked one and gave up just one hit. Wilson finished with three innings of scoreless one-hit pitching and got the win.
“Duncan pitched great game and then we brought Dane in to get some work and he did his usual good job,” said Ironton coach Red Burcham.
The game was scoreless until the sixth when Garrett Carrico reached on an error to lead off the inning.
Carrico went to third on a passed ball and scored on a hit by Jacob Koerper who went to second on the throw home. Kyle Kleinman then followed with an RBI single. Kleinman scored when Larry Morris reached on an error.
Ironton (12-8) got two insurance runs in the seventh.
Tanner Bowles singled, Wilson walked and Carrico was hit by a pitch. Koerper came up clutch with a two-run single.
“We’ve been playing good, hard baseball but we just haven’t been able to finish in some games. We needed this win,” said Burcham.
Koerper was 2-4 with three RBI and Kleinman was 2-4 with an RBI as Ironton got eight hits.
North Adams fell to 10-5.
Ironton plays at Huntington, W.Va., on Thursday.
