Pointers finish OVC play with a flourish

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers made their final Ohio Valley Conference game of the season one to remember.
Jonathan Henline pitched a three-hitter and the Pointers had 11 hits as they beat the Fairland Dragons 11-1 in five innings on Tuesday.
Henline struck out four, walked two and the one run was earn.
Leading the Pointers’ offense were Brody Blackwell who went 2-3 with two RBI, Logan Wade 2-4 with a double and three RBI, Henline 2-2 and Tanner Hall 2-3.
South Point took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Hall singled, Blackwell walked, Wade reached on an error and Henline and Travis Dillon singled.
Fairland got its only run in the top of the second when Dairus Stapleton singled, stole second and came home on Tucker Adkins’ base hit.
But the Pointers got two runs in the bottom of the inning.
With one out, Elijah Adams was safe on an error and then Blackwell, Wade and Henline had consecutive two-out singles.
A run scored in the third. Dillon reached on a fielder’s choice and scored when Drew Smith reached on an error.
The lead went to 7-1 in the fourth when Henline was hit by a pitch, moved up on a ground out and scored on an error.
The Pointers ended the game with four runs in the fifth.
Dillon singled, Smith and Hall walked, Blackwell singled and Wade doubled.
South Point played Green on Wednesday.
