CHESAPEAKE — Kasey Murphy handled the pitching and led the hitting, and that led to the Coal Grove Lady Hornets to an Ohio Valley Conference win.

Murphy got the win as she struck out six, walked one and did not allow an earned run. She also went 3-5 at the plate with a double as Coal Grove beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 6-5 on Monday.

Lauren Crum had a two-out RBI single in the first inning as Coal Grove went up 1-0.

The Lady Hornets got another run in the top of the third but Jordan Storms hit into a fielder’s choice that scored two runs in the bottom of the inning as Chesapeake tied the game.

Lauren Meyer had an RBI single in the fifth to give Coal Grove a 3-2 lead and the Lady Hornets added three runs in the sixth inning as Gracie Riley had a triple and Crum added a base hit.

The Lady Panthers got a run in the sixth and two in the seventh but their rally fell just short. Crum was 2-4 with three RBI, Riley 2-4 with a triple and two RBI and Mckenzie Moore was 2-4 with a double.

Brooke Webb took the loss as she struck out seven and walked two. Four of the runs were earned.

Lyric Bair was 2-4 with a double and Webb 2-4 to pace Chesapeake.
