ROME TOWNSHIP — The third annual Senior Citizens Day at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds is coming up.
The event, which will feature food, vendors and entertainment and is organized by the Sybene-Chesapeake Senior Center, is set for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, rain or shine.
Booths will range from health screenings from local hospitals to free haircuts and manicures from the vocational school to a visit of live animals from the Good News Llamas.
Darlene Green, the senior center’s director, who organized the event, said each vendor will be providing a door prize for attendees to win.
She said the variety of booths from local businesses and organizations give a sampling of things available in the county.
“Maybe they didn’t know what’s out there for them,” she said. “This is really just a day for the seniors.
Door prizes, a cake walk, homemade ice cream, an antique car show and old fashioned pinto beans are also planned.
This year’s event will have a country and western theme.
The fairgrounds event is in its third year and had attracted hundreds in previous years.
Last year’s event drew many political candidates, who campaigned at the event, but, even though there is no election this year, a few political figures will be coming back.
Green said the Lawrence County Commission will conduct its regular weekly meeting at the event at 1 p.m.
“A lot of people wouldn’t usually see it,” she said, adding that it gives an opporuntiy for attendees to witness their government at work.
