Eights Lawrence County middle school students earned a “superior’ rating at Science Day in Columbus on May 13.
The event, which took place at The Ohio State University, serves as the state level for science fair projects.
Participants in the event earned a “superior” rating in their school fairs and then repeated the feat at the county and regional level.
Julie Walters, of the Lawrence County Educational Services Center, who coordinates the Lawrence County Science fair, said the number of projects to earn the distinction from Lawrence County was high.
“That’s a lot from this area,” she said.
The students to earn the rating were Dawson Forbush, Allison Plantz and Elijah Snyder, of Chesapeake; Kayleigh Rowe of Dawson-Bryant; Samir Atai, Jasmine Barrack and Samuel Harris, of Fairland; and Trenton Williams, of Rock Hill.
In addition, 10 Lawrence County students earned an “excellent” rating at the fair. More than 1,000 students competed in the event.
