Douglas Bruce

Nov. 2, 1950 — May 21, 2017

Douglas Gregory “Chip” Bruce, 66, of Oak Hill, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Nov. 2, 1950, a son of the late Warren Junior Bruce and Mary Bishop Bruce.
Mr. Bruce was a graduate of Coal Grove High School and served in the United States Air Force. He was a former manager of the Borden Burger in Ashland, Kentucky, and retired as a coal sampler for Mineral Labs in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. He was a former member of the Ironton Eagles, loved to fish and ride his four-wheeler, and attended the Triple Cross Church in Oak Hill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Bruce.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, the love of his life, Florence “Evelyn” Stamper Bruce; seven children, his son and his daughter, and five other children, Doug (Heather) Depriest, of Pedro, Lisa (Dale) Adkins, of Oak Hill, Jeanie (Mark) Dyke, of Piketon, Jennifer (Allen) Clutters, of Oak Hill, and Derrick (Kendra) Depriest, of Oak Hill; two brothers, Steve (Vicki) Bruce, of Coal Grove, and Mark (Alison) Bruce, of Florida; 22 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be noon Friday at the Triple Cross Church in Oak Hill, with pastor Dale Adkins II officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post #8850. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, and 11 a.m. until the time of the service Friday morning at the church. David Campbell

David R. Campbell, 89, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. The Jasonville, Indiana native was born Jan. 17, 1928, a son of the late Robert and Naomi Scott Campbell.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Leota Rose Campbell, whom he married April 18, 1986.
Mr. Campbell was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a retired reactor operator/consultant for AEP and Texas Utilities, and, upon his retirement, he traveled for years as a consultant in the nuclear industry. He was a watchmaker and collector, and also a motorcycle enthusiast. David was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Easter Campbell, whom he married in 1948; a son, Bobby Dever; great-granddaughter, Hannah Grace Klein; a brother, Robert Campbell; and a sister, Betty Eimer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Gail Ann Ray, of Madison, Indians, and Teresa Marshall, of Ironton; a son, Michael (Karen) Campbell, of The Villages, Florida; three grandsons, Jeffrey (Bobbi) Klein, of Madison, Indiana, and Nathaniel Marshall and Jared Dever, both of Ironton; and two great-grandsons, Graham Klein and Garrett Klein, both of Madison, Indiana.
Funeral services will be noon Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by the American Legion Post 93. Dorothy Wise

March 24, 1925 — May 24, 2017

Mrs. Dorothy M. Wise, 92, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Oakmont Nursing Facility, after an illness of several months. She was born March 24, 1925. Mrs. Wise was the daughter of the late Fred and Nellie White Blackwell. She graduated from Ironton High School in 1943, and on Dec. 21, 1946, she married Frank Wise, who passed away Nov. 22, 2009.
Surviving are two sons, Terry (Ann) Wise and Steve (Liz) Wise; six grandchildren, Eric, Terry and Travis Wise, Melissa Wise Howes, Ra’Etta Wise and Justin Wise; 12 great-grandchildren, Brayden Wise, McKenzie Thompson, Taylor Wise, Zachary Wise, Corey Zornes, Austin Wise, Zoe Howes, Skylar Howes, Cody Wise, Macy Wise, Lexie Wise and Ava Wise; and one great-great-grandchild, Mika Howes.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty.
Visitation will be 10-10:45 a.m. Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home, Ironton. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery section 22 with Bob Hale officiating.

Carolyn Bannister

Carolyn Natalie Bannister, 69, of South Point, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

 

Colleen Massey

Oct. 27, 1925 — May 24, 2017

Colleen H. Massey, 91, of Ironton, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. She was born Oct. 27, 1925, to the late Edwin F. and Mae H. Hall. She was the wife of Charles W. Massey.
She was a retired teacher from Dawson-Bryant Schools. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Virginia, Mary Washington College. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Ironton, Eastern Star, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her husband; and three sons, Steve (Regina) Massey, Rick (Lisa) Massey, Mike Massey; and Mike Fortin; grandchildren, Michelle (Jason) Mendoza, Stephanie (Matt) Fojas, Katie (Kerry) Green, Erika (Dan) Friesenhengst and Ashley (Josh) Castillo; great-grandchildren, Charlie Fojas, Annabelle Mendoza, Graysen and Aubrie Friesenhengst, and Enoch Castillo.
Visitation will be 4:30-5:30 p.m. Friday at O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home, Ironton. Funeral service will be 5:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View Cemetery, Pulaski, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Methodist Church of Ironton’s Food Pantry or the Van Ministry at Bellefonte Hospital.
