Meal program is worthwhile

Many times, sitting down to a meal at home or a restaurant doesn’t bring on any more thought than what route you will take to work the next day.
However, for many children here in Lawrence County, the only nutritious meals they get are breakfast and lunch at school.
While many school districts in the county have worked hard to ensure each child gets those meals, what happens when the school year is over?
In an effort by the Ironton-Lawrence County CAO and several businesses and organizations throughout Lawrence County, children up to age 18 are able to get those meals they might not otherwise be able to partake in.
Between June 5 and Aug. 11 during the week, children can receive meals and weekend food packages at one of the following locations:
• Ironton Middle School
9-10 a.m. and noon-1 p.m.
• Ironton High School
12:30-1:30 p.m.
• Ironton Metro Housing
12-1 p.m.
• Rock Hill Schools
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
• Storms Creek Apartments
1-2 p.m.
• Lawrence Village
Apartments – 1-2 p.m.
• Lawrence Commons
Apartments – 12:30-1:30 p.m.
• C3 Church -11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
• Tri-State STEM+M

• Burlington Park- noon-1 p.m.
• Chesapeake United Methodist Church- noon-1 p.m.
• Proctorville Library

• Collins Career Technical

We applaud the efforts of all those involved to ensure our children get the meals they need throughout the summer.

We all know that limited food has been an issue for many children that isn’t new, but if this helps one child get the meals they need, the effort will be well worthwhile.
