Claudette Stephens
March 21, 1958 — June 1, 2017
Claudette Brooks Stephens, 59, of South Point, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
The Ironton native was born March 21, 1958, the daughter of the late Claude and Hazel Murnahan Brooks. She is survived her husband, Jerry Stephens, whom she married June 30, 2012.
She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and obtained her Medical Assistant’s certificate from Centry College. She was a bank teller for Liberty Bank and attended South Point Nazarene Church. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, quilting and sewing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Brooks.
In addition to her husband, she is also survived by a daughter, Amy (Joe Nelson) Denton, of Dudley, North Carolina; two sons, Jeff (Alice) Stephens, of South Point, and Brian (Jen) Stephens, of Huntington, West Virginia; one brother, Jerry (Becky) Brooks, of Hanging Rock; grandchildren, Madison, Raelynne, Robbie, Ryan, Gage, Macy, Jarrett, Presley, Trevor and Jacob; and several special friends and special family members.
Funeral services will be noon Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Jerry Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lisa Washburn
Oct. 2, 1977 — June 1, 2017
Lisa Miller Washburn, 39, of South Point, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017, in Huntington, West Virginia. Lisa was born Oct. 2, 1977, in Columbus, a daughter of Robert and Beverly Foughty Miller.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her kids, Nathan and Kenneth; and a sister, Ashley Molinda.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
Robert O’Daniel
Robert Keith O’Daniel, 70, passed away peacefully in his home on June 1, 2017.
He is survived by his three daughters, Tara O’Daniel, Leah Polanski (Allen) and Kendra Gorski (Andrew). He also leaves behind nine cherished grandchildren, Abagale Pikul (Justin), Kennedy, Espn, Anson, Navarra, Regan, Reese, Avery and Jordan.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary (Hall) and Robert O’Daniel; and sister, Annette Chateau.
A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, and 5 p.m. Monday, June 12 at Bell Creek Community Church, Livonia, Michigan.
Jane Monroe
Dec. 29, 1947 — May 24, 2017
Jane Strayer Monroe, 69, of New Brighton, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017, following a long illness. Jane was an exceptional woman, loved by all, who lit up any room she entered.
Jane was born Dec. 29, 1947, in Ironton, where she graduated from Ironton High School. Jane received her B.A. from Ohio University, and then obtained an MBA from Xavier University. She spend a majority of her working career in Columbus. Jane was an accomplished businessperson, who spent over 30 years working for multinational conglomerates. Her work took her all over the world in a career that included corporate risk management, self-insurance for international corporations, executive training, outplacement and sales. Among her many achievements, Jane was the first woman to make a corporate presentation to Lloyd’s of London while working at Columbus-based Borden, Inc. After moving to Minnesota, Jane became active in Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota. With her husband, she raised, fostered and cared for many golden retrievers, who had a better life because of her love for them.
Jane and Jim first met in 1971, and then found each other again in 1989. They were together for 27 years, married for 24 of them. Theirs was a relationship built on love, dedication and mutual respect.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and “Bonnie” Strayer; and a sister, Mary Jo Strayer.
Jane is survived by loving husband, Jim; her “bonus” children; daughter, Melissa; grandchildren, Tylar and Braydan, of Thornville; son, Ric (Jennifer); grandchildren, Mason, Landon and Lucy, of Cincinnati; daughter, Ashleigh, of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Geraold) King and Cathy (Tony) Pello; and nieces, Traci Bentine Richardson and Kristina Winowich and their families.
