Lillian Zipperian
1931 — June 14, 2017
Lillian Kathleen (Kitty) Freeman Porter Zipperian, 85, of Coal Grove, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Heartland of Riverside, South Point. She was the baby of eight children, and the last surviving, born to Bert and Clara Freeman in 1931 in Ashland, Kentucky.
She was married to Lester Leon (Pete) Porter for 25 years. Later in life, she married Jack Zipperian. Both husbands preceded her in death.
In 1948, Kitty graduated from Coal Grove High School. During her life, she was employed at The Ironton Tribune, Ashland Furnace Company, The First National Bank and retired from Columbia Gas. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Ashland and Huntington for many years, where she served her church in several capacities. Mrs. Zipperian loved ballroom dancing and was a member of two ballroom dancing cotillions in Huntington, West Virginia.
Surviving are her two daughters, Kathy Jo (Randy) Parker, of Wheelersburg, and Judy Ann Vanderhoof, of Coal Grove. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael Wilburn) Pleasants, Jason Vanderhoof, Wendy (Lonnie) Nixon and Jamie (Art) Lima.
Kitty also had seven great-grandchildren, Austen Pleasants, Arik Pleasants, Abbie Nixon, Andrew Nixon, Audrie Nixon, Daisy Lima; and a step-great-granddaughter, Emma Lima. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her dear friend since high school, Estee Curry.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by her seven siblings, James Edgar Freeman, Albert Campbell Freeman, Anita Belle Freeman Dowling, Beatrice Eileen Freeman, Clarence Oakley Freeman, Margie Mae Freeman Roush Gable and Helen Arlene Freeman. Also preceding her in death was a great-grandson, Joseph Allen Nixon.

Mack Dickess
Jan. 31, 1926 — June 12, 2017
Mack Dickess, 91, of Ironton, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center Ironton Campus. Mack was born Jan. 31, 1926, in Kitts Hill, son of the late John and Emma Dickess. He graduated from Kitts Hill High School.
At a young age, he worked for Foster Stove Company in Ironton and also Carlyle Tile Company in Coal Grove for 24 years making tile. He worked at the Ashland Coke Plant Division of Armco Steel and retired from Armco Steel after 15 years. He was an agent for Sandy and Beaver Insurance Company and past owner of Dickess Auto Insurance Agency. On April 16, 1946, Mack married Lillian Chapman, who survives him, at First Christian Church, Catlettsburg, Kentucky, by Minister D.H. Matherly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Wilber Dickess, Thomas (Dorothy) Dickess, Frank (Gladys) Dickess, Homer (Clementine) Dickess, David (Josephine) Dickess, and Edward (Regina) Dickess; and sisters, Clara (Don) Mootz and Sophia (Harley) Wilson. In addition to his wife, Lillian, Mack leaves behind his wonderful family, sons, Michael (Linda) Dickess and Ronald (Kimberly) Dickess; grandchildren, Bryan Lawless, Lindsey (Jeff) Lawless and Nathaniel Dickess; one great-grandchild, Hoyt Lawless; and sisters, Elena (Francis) Szabo and Rachel (Dan) Neal.
He attended Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving active duty in Germany.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Ironton, with pastor Mike Long officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Visitation will be 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is assisting the family with arrangements. Annetta M. Spears O’Neal, 60, of Brooksville, Florida, formerly of Huntington, West Virginia, died Friday, June 9, 2017, at Bayfront Health, Brookesville, Florida.
