Robert Vanderhoof

Dec. 10, 1947 — June 13, 2017

Robert Michael Vanderhoof, 69, of Ashland, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017, in Thurman, New York. The Ironton native was born Dec. 10, 1947, a son to the late Robert Wesley Vanderhoof and Helen (Willis) Vanderhoof-Turner, of Ironton.
Mr. Vanderhoof was a 1965 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. Robert went on to make a career serving in the United Sates Air Force, where he retired after 20 years of enlistment. He later worked as a chemical operator at Sunoco, where he retired after 30 years of service in 2011. Robert was of the Methodist faith and a member of Centenary Methodist Church. Robert loved riding motorcycles, camping and the great outdoors. He was a former president of the Local Gold Wing Riders Association and was also a devoted and loving grandfather.
Robert is survived by two sons, Mike (Anita) Vanderhoof, of Ironton, and Kevin (Sheila) Vanderhoof, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; mother of his children, Myra Vanderhoof, of Ironton; two granddaughters, Taylor Vanderhoof, Ironton, and Ava Vanderhoof, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; three brothers, Ron (Regina) Vanderhoof, of Ironton, Jeff (Sue) Vanderhoof, of Ironton, and retired Colonel Scott (Kelli) Vanderhoof, of Bellevue, Nebraska; two special uncles, Larry Willis and Gary Willis; and numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be noon Friday at Central Christian Church in Ironton, with the Rev. Dr. Deron Newman officiating. Burial will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, with military honors performed by the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard. Tina Marie Walker Friend, 48, of Pedro, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. Mrs. Friend was born Sept. 12, 1968, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, a daughter to Delmaine and Rose (Smith) Walker. She is also survived by her husband of 14 years, Steve Friend, whom she married Aug. 26, 2002.
Tina was a graduate of Milford High School and was a homemaker. She enjoyed being a T-shirt designer, cake decorating, and arts and crafts. She was of the Christian faith.
She was preceded in death by a son, Devan Walker.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by three daughters, Samantha Friend and Kelly Friend, both of Pedro, and Amber Taylor, of Brandon, Florida; two sons, Jesse Lee (Courtney) Walker, of Pedro, and Kenny Thompson, of Michigan; three granddaughters, Ava Brown and Amyiah Brown, both of Brandon, Florida, and Alivia Akers, of Pedro; and her future grandchild due in December.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Jesse Sizemore officiating. Jolynda Dingus

Jolynda (Hartwig) Dingus, of Somerset, Kentucky, died Saturday, June 17, 2017.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Dingus; two daughters, Holly Hoffman, of Sellersville, Pennsylvania, and Heidi Batavia, of Ohio; a son, Cory (Leigh) Dingus, of Piedmont, South Carolina; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. There will be no services.

William Bays

Oct. 17, 1987 — June 10, 2017

Sgt. William M. Bays, 29, tragically lost his life in the defense of Liberty on Saturday, June 10, 2017, in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.
A Celebration of Life will be noon Friday at Community Chapel at 15th and Shau Valley Rd., Fort Campbell, with Cpt. (Chaplain) George Nytes officiating. He will be laid to rest at Belmont Cemetery, Allensville, Kentucky. Full Military Honors will be rendered. The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at McReynolds-Nave and Larson Funeral Home and 11 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at Community Chapel.
William was born Oct. 17, 1987, in Barstow, California, the only son of Timothy and April Briggs Bays. Sgt. Bays was a true American patriot and loved his country with great passion. He was also a loving and dedicated husband and father, and was a member of Life Point Church. William enjoyed camping, traveling and working on cars, especially his Jeep.
Other than his parents, of Ohio, he is survived by his wife, Jasmin Bays; daughters, Laura, Mia and Julia; sisters, Brenda Griner and Lindsay Bays; paternal grandmother, Doris Bays; maternal grandparents, Marshall and Lorraine Briggs; and father-in- law and mother-in- law, Frank and Regina Draeger. Richard Prince

March 23, 1957 — June 18, 2017

Richard Darrell Prince, 60, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, in Ashland, Kentucky.  Mr. Prince was born March 23, 1957, in Ironton, a son to the late Stairl and Beulah Mae Fout Prince.  He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Connie Wiley Prince.
Mr. Prince was a 1976 graduate of Rock Hill High School. He was a former truck driver for the John W. Clark Oil Company, retiring in 2008 after 18 years of service. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Ashland,Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Aaron Keeghan Prince; and two brothers, Staril “David” Prince and Danny Ray Prince.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kimberly (Brian) Clar, of Ironton; a son, Nick (Tina) Prince, of South Point; four brothers, Donald William Prince and Dale (Beth) Prince, both of Ironton, and Dean (Sherry) Prince and Steven (Christy) Prince, both of Kitts Hill; three sisters, Debbie Young, of Grayson, Kentucky, and Dreama (Curt) Fannin and Janice Prince, both of Ironton; amd four grandchildren, Hayden Clark, Eli Clark, Madeline Clark and Jaxson Prince.
Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Friday at the Christ United Methodist Church in Ashland, Kentucky with the Rev. William Moore officiating.

Johann Walker

Sept. 9, 1930 — June 17, 2017

Johann Healey Walker, 86, of South Point, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017, at a local health care facility.
The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 9, 1930, a daughter of the late Clifford Healey and Veatrice Warren Healey Lunsford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Walker Jr., who passed away in 1988.
Mrs. Walker was a graduate of Ironton High School and a former employee of Tipton’s Supermarket and K-Mart in Chesapeake.
She was very active in the Sybene Senior Citizens Center and loved to meet with her friends at McDonald’s in the South Point Walmart. She enjoyed crafts, was an artist and working with flowers in her garden. She was of the Nazarene faith.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Gannon.
She is survived by a daughter, Debrah Jo (Ralph Blackstone Jr.) Stapleton, of Coal Grove; two grandsons, Ronnie Stapleton Jr., of Waxhachie, Texas, and Ryan Walker Stapleton, of Huntington, West Virginia; and several nieces, nephews and special friends

Roxanne Duling

Roxanne Lynn Duling, 35, of Huntington, West Virginia passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017. She is survived by her husband, James Duling.
There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
