Pre-fair events set for today, Saturday

Official kick off is Sunday
ROME TOWNSHIP — The Lawrence County Fair officially starts Sunday, but pre-fair events are planned for the fairgrounds today and Saturday.
Motocross will take place at 7 p.m. today, with sign-ups and practice running from 4-6 p.m.
On Saturday, the animals are set to arrive on site, with 4-H and FFA weigh-ins and check-ins running from 6-10 a.m., followed by barn meetings at 11 a.m.
From noon-12:30 p.m., farmers will check in tobacco crops, with judging set for 1 p.m at the 4-H shelter.
Livestock 4-H Skillathon sign-ups are set for 1-1:30 p.m. at the shelter, with the event taking place from 2-4 p.m. and awards at 4:30 p.m.
The 4-H booth set-up will run from 4-8 p.m., followed by a Power Wheel Derby at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the grandstand.
The 4-H and FFA Market Chicken and Fancy Poultry Show, followed by Showmanship will take place at 6 p.m. at the 4-H Shelter.
The night will conclude will a demolition derby at the grandstand at 6 p.m.
Fair events will begin in full on Sunday, when the rides open.
Opening ceremonies and the crowning of the fair queen and princesses are set for 1 p.m.
