Auction is Lambert’s legacy

On Saturday, community businesses and county officials gathered under the barn at the Lawrence County Fair to support members of area 4-H clubs with the livestock and tobacco auctions.
The auction, founded by and named in honor of late fair board member and former county commissioner Don Lambert, rewards the hard work and dedication of 4-H club members with cash payments sponsored by the bids of business and government leaders.
This auction serves an important function in our community, giving kids money for things like education, school supplies, or to continue their work in agriculture and animal husbandry.
Lambert was born during the Great Depression, and grew up poor, but his work ethic enabled him to succeed. His hard work provided for his family, and eventually allowed him to share that work ethic not only with his children and grandchildren, but the community as a whole through his work establishing the auction.
Lots of folks can talk about the value of hard work, but Lambert was instrumental in allowing the children of Lawrence County the opportunity to learn it firsthand, through their own hard work with raising livestock and crops for the fair.
We commend that hard work, and the folks who help continue Lambert’s legacy of recognizing and reinforcing it with their financial support of the auction. Thank you all for making Lawrence County a great place to live and work.
