A meeting at the top

On Aug. 29, two of our county’s commissioners, Republican Freddie Hayes Jr. and Democrat DeAnna Holliday, will be among a group of commissioners from Ohio who will attend a five-hour conference with officials at the White House.
The trip comes as a result of the White House seeking to meet with local officials, Hayes said.
It is unclear as of now whether President Donald Trump will be in attendance.
Regardless of one’s feeling about the occupant of the office at a given time, it is always a good thing when the presidency takes an interest in local matters.
Holliday said the commissioners plan to discuss the Wayne National Forest, the opioid crisis and community block funding, while commissioner Bill Pratt, who will not be making the trip due to another meeting, said he hopes the issue of infrastructure is discussed.
Here’s hoping for a successful meeting and the possibility of getting federal attention turned to issues and problems facing Lawrence County.
