PEDRO — As the Beatles once sang on their Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album, “We’re getting better all the time.”
St. Joseph Flyers’ coach Mike Balestra has been pleased with his young team’s improvement that was evident with a 2-2 tie against the unbeaten Rock Hill Redmen on Tuesday.
“Our youth is starting to mature and come into their own. We are getting better each week. Our team played hard, smart and together,” said Balestra.
“Both teams played very hard. Rock Hill is very talented. They remain undefeated and are having great success for a second-year program.”
Isaac Whaley scored both goals for the Flyers while Jackson Rowe and Chase Walters each had an assist.
St. Joseph goalkeeper Jerod Johnson had 12 saves.
Rock Hill got goals from Victor Aguilera and Caleb Dillon. Noah Roberts — one of two goalies for the Redmen — notched six saves.
The Flyers had 18 shots with eight on goal. They had nine corner kicks and five fouls.
