Vikings battle despite loss to Oaks

OAK HILL — The Symmes Valley Vikings lost the game but won their coach over with their heart.
The Vikings battled Southern Ohio Conference favorite Oak Hill but the Oaks proved too strong and posted a 41-0 win last Friday.
“All our kids played hard and competed until the final horn,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.
“We gave up a lot of yards and points, but we made them drive the ball except for a few plays. That’s just kids battling hard.”
Layken Gothard led the Vikings’ ground game with 31 yards on 10 carries. Derik Brace added 12 yards on seven carries, Keifer Wilson got 10 yards on two carries and Derek Crum chipped in 6 yards on two attempts.
Symmes Valley were 0-of-2 passing and lost two fumbles.
The Oaks outgained the Vikings 233 to 7 in the first half and took a 27-0 lead.
For the game, Bailey Clutters led the Oaks with197 yards on 13 carries and Zach Fisher racked up 115 yards on 12 attempts. Walker Smith added 51 yards on eight rushes.
The Vikings host Green on Friday.
