The Ironton Farmers Market is coming to an end for the season.

Friday and Saturday will be the last days until next spring.

“It was a good year,” said Sam Heighton, executive director of Ironton aLive, which is one of the sponsors of the farmers’ market, adding this was the fifth year for the market. “It changes every year but it increases. We had new customers this year. We added a few vendors.”

He said last week’s Heritage Festival probably brought in the most people.

“It brought in some new people that got to experience the farmers’ market, maybe they had never been to it before,” Heighton said. “The car show was big this year and brought in a lot of people. So, it kind of worked together.”

Heighton said another popular draw was that Ironton In Bloom had free food on the second Saturday of every month at the market.

“People really liked it,” Heighton said.

He added he always makes it a point to talk to the vendors at the end of every market day to see how things went and their remarks were very positive.

“Most of them are from out of town and could set up and sell their baked goods or produce anywhere,” Heighton said. “But they were always loyal to Ironton and keep coming back.”

“Every week they have brought us great produce, baked goods, honey, eggs, homemade candy, homemade crafts, flowers,” Heighton said. “We all worked together like one big family. They are great people.”

Friday and Saturday hours are 7 a.m.-3 p.m. and will continue next year opening Friday May 4, 2018.

The Ironton Farmers’ Market is a project of Ironton aLive and sponsored by Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
