This year, students at Symmes Valley schools have found a new addition to their classrooms.
Superintendent Darrell Humphreys said the district recently purchased 580 Chromebook PC laptops for each student in the elementary, middle and high school.
The laptops allow students to have a modernized classroom experience, and they can turn in assignments online, keep daily logs and share lecture notes.
The new computers also serve an important function.
They can also be used for online testing, something Humphreys said prodded the district to make the purchase, as officials at Symmes Valley were not satisfied with last year’s statewide testing results.
As Humphreys said, most testing is done exclusively on line and, by giving students a piece of technology they can be familiar with through constant use, they can adapt better to the testing situation.
As technology progresses, more and more classroom activities will be done online and Symmes Valley made a wise investment in making the purchase.
As with the school’s STEM program, which focuses on science, technology, engineering and math, students in the district are getting a state-of-the-art education which will better prepare them for college and job opportunities in the 21st century.
