An early holiday start

This weekend, the Lawrence County Festival of Trees and Christmas Market will take place at the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce building, located at 218 Collins Ave. in South Point.
This year’s event is an expanded affair. The festival of trees has taken place over the Thanksgiving weekend the past few years at Ohio University Southern’s Proctorville Center.
This year, the event will include the Christmas market for the first time, featuring 20 vendors selling handmade items.
To add to the Christmas spirit, the event will also feature Santa Claus and live reindeer, in addition to the 30 decorated Christmas trees. A live Nativity is planned for 5-8 p.m. on Saturday.
The festival and market run from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday. A children’s event is planned for 1-3 p.m. on Saturday.
Proceeds from the event go to fund business development and Chamber operations, with half of the money going to scholarships for Lawrence County students.
The growth of the event is the result of the hard work of many. We encourage all to get a start on their holiday shopping by visiting the market and enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere the festival offers.
