Donations also taken for active duty military

COAL GROVE — As they have for nearly a decade, members of American Legion Post 433 in Ironton took the streets on the first day of the Christmas season to raise funds for a good cause.

Legion members stood at the intersection of Marion Pike and South Third Street throughout the day, taking advantage of the Black Friday traffic and collecting donations for veterans in nursing homes and active duty military personnel.

Post members said a wish list is taken for those in nursing homes and funds are used to purchase items sought, while active duty members will receive gift cards.

When items are purchased, the Legion will visit the veterans at the nursing homes, along with Santa Claus and area children on Dec. 23. The public is invited the join the group, who will leave the post in Ironton that morning.

Anyone who would like to contribute to the effort can send a donation to American Legion Post 433, 310 S. 3rd St. Ironton, OH 45638.
