PROCTORVILLE — This was supposed to be the marquee matchup in the Ohio Valley Conference.
The only thing in lights was the Fairland Dragons’ performance.
Isaiah Howell scored 28 points and had 10 rebounds and Luke Thomas scored 27 points including six 3-pointers as the Dragons took sole possession of the OVC lead with a 97-50 rout of the Gallipolis Blue Devils on Tuesday.
Fairland is now 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the OVC as Ty Staten added 17 points in the lopsided win.
Justin Peck scored 17 points, Zach Loveday had 13 points and Evan Wiseman 10 as Gallipolis (5-1, 2-1) suffered its first loss.
The Dragons blew the game open from the start as they outscored the Blue Devils 37-12 in the first quarter.
Thomas scored 15 points with a pair of 3-pointers and 5-of-5 at the foul line, Howell scored 12 including a pair of 3-pointers and Staten added six more.
Thomas had two 3-pointers in the second quarter while Peck scored nine and Loveday six and it was 52-27 at the half.
Fairland re-charged its offense at the half and outscored Gallipolis 29-17 to build an insurmountable 81-44 cushion.
Howell scored 12 points in the third quarter including two more 3-pointers. Wiseman had eight of his points in the quarter for the Blue Devils.
The backups finished the game and Matt Mondlak had seven points in the fourth including a 3-pointer for Fairland.
Fairland plays at Huntington, W.Va., on Thursday. Gallipolis hosts River Valley on Friday.
