Lexie Arden prides herself on being a team player. Greenfield McClain might think she’s a pretty good team all by herself.
Arden had 24 points to outscore the entire McClain team as the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers blasted the McClain Lady Tigers 49-19 on Friday in the opening day of The Ironton Classic.
Arden scored six points as Ironton took a 6-3 lead in the first quarter. McClain was 0-for-14 from the field with all its points coming from the foul line.
A steal by Riley Schreck who fed Arden with a nice pass made it 8-3 to begin the second quarter.
Arden hit another basket for a 10-3 lead and McClain ended an 0-for-18 string as Emma Stegbauer made a 15-footer at the 4:14 mark for their first basket and it was 10-5.
McClain got another basket but Haylee Stevens hit a basket as Ironton went up 12-7. Kyla Burchett then hit a 3-pointer as McClain closed to within 12-10.
Ellie Williams made a layup for Ironton and it was 14-10 and Arden drained a trifecta for a 17-10 lead.
Ironton went on a 9-0 run to begin the second half and the defense continued to stymie the McClain offense.
Arden scored to start the second half and Schreck took a long pass for a layup and it was 21-10.
Arden buried a triple from the top of the key as the lead grew to 24-10. Lexi Wise had a steal and fed Schreck for another basket and it was 26-10.
Burchett finally ended the Ironton run and made it 26-12 but Wise scored and then Williams found Arden for another basket and a 30-12 lead.
Arden drove for a layup to extend the lead before Hunter Scott had a putback for McClain and it was 32-14 at the end of the third quarter.
McClain made a foul shot to start the fourth but Katie Boyer answered with a pair of baskets for Ironton and the lead was 36-15.
Arden drove for another basket and then a steal and layup by Wise pushed the lead to 40-15. A Wise pass to Schreck resulted in a layup and Wise had another steal that she went coast-to-coast for a layup and it was 44-15.
Emma Stegbauer’s basket with just under two minutes left gave McClain its first field goal of the fourth quarter.
Williams three-point play put the lead at 47-19 and Sophie Caines scored to cap the scoring just before the buzzer.
Ironton was 22-of-45 from the field for 49 percent while McClain was a dismal 7-of-54 for 12.9 percent.
Ironton hosts South Point on Thursday, Jan. 4.
