Jamie Oberkfell

May 12, 1962 — Dec. 24, 2017

Jamie S. Oberkfell, 55, of Lakeview, passed away, Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017 at her home.

Jamie was born on May 12, 1962 in Ironton, a daughter of Doug and Janet Bryant Smith, who survive in Lakeview.

She is also survived by a sister, Mary Angela Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, a brother, J. D. (Kristi) Smith, of Columbus, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces.

Jamie was a 1980 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and attended Ohio University Southern and Morehead College. She was a member of Community Baptist Church in Ironton and enjoyed arts and crafts.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. 7th St., Ironton, with visitation two hours prior to services. Burial is in Community Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her name to Community Baptist Church, 4049 OH-243, Ironton.

Katherine Huff

Jan. 2, 1932 — Dec. 25, 2017

Katherine J. Huff, 85, of Ironton, passed away peacefully on Dec. 25 to earn her eternal reward with her Lord and Savior.

Preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Huff, and nine siblings, she is survived by her beloved family consisting of a son, Butch (Lisa) Huff, a daughter, Yvonne (George) Mellert; granddaughters, Jessica Pace (John) Maynard, Julie (Chris) Medinger; Katherine “Katie” Huff; Kaeli Huff and Amy Bloom; a great grandson, Tate Medinger; and great granddaughters, Finley Medinger and Megan Bloom. She is also survived by her loving church family at Storms Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and many nieces and nephews.

She was born Jan. 2, 1932, to the late Fred and Martha Myers, grew up in the tough depression and WWII eras, learning the values of hard work, honesty, cleanliness, and frugality. Her ambition in life was to become a wife and mother, and she achieved these at the highest levels.

She married Ralph in June 1949, and began her family in December 1950. In addition to the responsibilities of raising her family, she also worked full time at J.C. Penny where she would later retire.

In accordance with her wishes, gravesite rites will be performed by her pastor Kenny Hurst and facilitated by the O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home, burial will be in Woodland Cemetery Section I, at 1 p.m., Thursday. She also wished that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Storms Creek Missionary Baptist Church Youth Ministry 51 County Rd. 7, Ironton, Ohio 45638

Marvin Morrison

Marvin G. Morrison, 68, of Proctorville, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017 at Ohio State University Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital.  Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.  Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville.  Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Nelle Hern

July 1, 1939 — Dec. 22, 2017

Nelle Rose (Vallance) Hern, 78, of Ironton passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at Our Lady of Bellefonte in Russell, Kentucky.  The Ironton native was born July 1, 1939, a daughter to the late Floyd Vallance, Sr. and Ruth Eloise (Savary) Barber.  Mrs. Hern was also preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Hern, who passed away in 1999.

Mrs. Hern attended Ironton schools.  Nelle Rose later worked as a clerk at Kinney’s Grocery.  She was a member of Tri-State Baptist Church of South Point.  She also loved line dancing, being active in her church and she taught Sunday school for a little while.

Mrs. Hern is survived by four daughters, Tammy (Randy) Hall, of Hudson, Florida, Shara (John) Rubio, of King, North Carolina, Rhonda (Robert) Taylor, of Mount Airy, North Carolina, and Lyla (Bobby) Campbell, of Land O’ Lakes, Florida; two sons, James G. (Liz) Hern, of South Point, and Brian David Hern, of Ironton; 11 grandchildren, Tandy (Paul) Poyner, Matthew Kyle, Jedidiah Hall, Aaron (Elizabeth) Kyle, John Rubio III, Josh Campbell, Derek Hern, Shanna Hern, Shawn Hern, Desi Hern, and Matthew Hern; 13 great-grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew
In addition to her parents and husband, Nelle Rose was preceded in death by a sister, Lila Carey French; and three brothers, Robert Dale Vallance, Floyd Vallance, Jr. and Donald Griffith.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh Street, with Rev. James Cremeans officiating.  Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

James Nungesser

James Walter Nungesser, 70, of Proctorville, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Linda Quinn Nungesser. Private family services will be held.
